Volunteer
Thank you for your interest in how to get more involved in making a positive difference in our community and the lives of the animals in our care!
We are always thrilled when people are willing to get involved. You are more than welcome to come and volunteer at our shelter. In fact, we need all the help we can get. If you have not yet had the opportunity to visit our shelter, we would like to take this opportunity to invite you to do so and we look forward to introducing you to our family. We prefer the minimum age of a volunteer to be 14 as a teenager can take responsibility for tasks that need to get done.
During your visit, you will get first-hand insight into exactly what we do and how we go about doing it. Volunteers are very special to us, and I always say I would never be able to do this without the help of the volunteers.
We rely on the love, dedication, and passion of our volunteers to help us meet our goals and face our challenges.
We are open daily from 9:00 until 17:00 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. We are closed on Wednesdays. On Sundays, we are open from 9:00 until 12:00.
Currently, we take care of nearly 700 dogs, nearly 700 cats, and 2 donkeys so there is always plenty to do.
We have 2 sections – the dog kennels and the cattery. If you decide to spend time in the cattery, you can expect lots of love and kisses from the cats.
Of course, the cats are much more peaceful and you can spend hours with them brushing them and cuddling them. They have a beautiful big enclosure that is divided for the bigger cats and of course the nursery for the little ones. You can sit quietly under the trees and brush them and just spoil them with love and attention. Treats are ALWAYS welcome!
The dog kennels are a totally different story and you have to prepare yourself for lots of jumping, excitement, and energy! They are usually elated when they see there are people who want to play and walk with them.
We prefer that the dogs get special attention due to the fact that they are more dependent on human interaction than cats, and prefer the volunteers try to take as many of our dogs out for a walk. W have a lovely area where you can walk them.
If you prefer, you may also play with them in the kennel. We also have a play area that you are welcome to use to play with the dogs.
Otherwise, there is always help needed cleaning the kennels, giving fresh water, picking up poo… and shaking out the blankets etc.
Believe me, there is never a dull moment at our shelter and you are always welcome at Wollies!
On your first visit, please come to the office and just inform us that you would like to get involved in volunteering and one of our staff/volunteers will assist you and introduce you to our shelter.
We are looking forward to meeting you.
